Spherical Vase by Les Blakeborough in Southern Ice Porcelain

Suggesting the Eternal but also the Now this spherical vase by Les Blakeborough (b. 1930) is created from southern ice porcelain and decorated with concentric bands of underglaze blue and copper and gold lustre. Impressed with his initials LB to the foot rim, Les Blakebrough is regarded as one of Australia’s leading ceramic artists. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, all Australian state galleries and many international collections, including the British and Danish royal collections.

After meticulous research in hopes to create the world’s best kaolinclay, Les Blakeborough created what is now named ‘Southern Ice’. Ice is referenced for its qualities of “whiteness of snow and translucence of ice”. It is now marketed to ceramicists world-wide.
