Flora mezzotint by Bartolozzi after Guercino, 1780

1780
paper
45 x 45 cm
$150

At first sight it seems to be a drawing of Primavera or Spring and a putto scattering flowers but closer inspection reveals the names “Bartolozzi” and “Guercino” on the lower edge, meaning it is a mezzotint created in the late 18th century. The original drawing by the Italian master Guercino is in the Royal Collection, and Bartolozzi made many prints of works in the collection of George III which were very popular.
