Caviar scoop by Georg Jensen, 20th Century

20th century
silver and horn
19.5 x 6.5 cm
$180

An elegant object from the days when caviar was served with great abandon, created by one of the fathers of modern design Georg Jensen (1866-1935). True to the tradition of the “artist craftsman” the silver handle is at once utilitarian and modern in its essence with a decorative beaded edge that echoes the luxury fare it is designed to serve. The horn bowl is essential as the salinity of the caviar reacts with silver and causes tarnishing.
