Wedgwood teapot, cream jug and covered sugar basin, mid 20th century

mid 20th century
Jasperware porcelain
sizes varied. teapot 12 cm tall.

Experimental and radical aren’t adjectives one would apply to most notions of Wedgwood, I mean isn’t it something your Nanna loved and collected? Founded in the 18th century by the “radical potter” Josiah Wedgwood these wares marry science and style, technology and entrepreneurialism. The crisp classical scenes on this tea set may seem to be the essence of antique but its production and process were exemplars of the industrial revolution. It makes a great cuppa too!
