Japanese lacquer is made from the sap of the poison oak tree (“urushi” in Japanese) painted in many coats on a wooden base over a period of weeks, the designs created with gold powder resulting in an object that is light, durable and very beautiful. This tray has a central design of a chrysanthemum within scrolling stylised gingko leaves, two elements that are the essence of Japan. It comes in its own beautiful wooden presentation box making it a treasured gift or possession.
